Teddy Bears Picnic
One for the Children 2006
Under the direction of Emma
Pooley and accompanied by pianist Susan Holmes, the children of the
Parish throw their all into a selection of songs that were obviously
very familiar to them and it would seem, to most of the Mums &
Dads present there-in. |
|
Adult
bears keep a keen eye on proceedings, even so, one escaped to the
bell tower - another climbed onto the back rail of his pew for
a closer look |

The
children's concert ended with a spirited march around the pews with
all instruments at full power. Tambourines, shakers, triangles and
drums all put in an appearance. As a finale - and I suspect a subtle
way of calming them down, Emma read a story before leading them outside
to the awaiting Picnic spread and re-union with some well loved Teddies. |

As
most will know, Reverend Tony Cumberlidge is very keen to promote
the presence and teachings of the Church to people from all
walks of life and equally as important, people of all
ages. Children are our direct link with the future and therefore it
makes perfect sense that they should be actively encouraged to take
part in church based events. By providing this type of window,
children of a very young age can feel part of the church in a positive
way - instead of seeing it as I did when I was a child - as some ancient
ritualistic club with only limited appeal to vicars or the elderly. |
|
Five
O'Clock came - the bears collected their respective owners, and off
they went It had been a unique experience for all, with praise
coming from many parents for the way in which the children had been
encouraged to take an active part in the weekend proceedings. A small
army of people now set about making the Church ready for the 7.00pm
"Songs of Praise Service." this service would mark the official
closing of "The Gift Weekend" and all it's associated events. |
The "Songs of Praise" service included a number of parishioners whom had been asked to choose a hymn.and to give an insight into the reasons for choosing that particular favorite. Diana Smith drew rapturous applause when she said to Rev'd Cumberlidge during the service-" You are the vicar now and with you we must go forward," - she continued - "It s up to all of us to support you fully in your efforts" |
A presentation
was made by Reverend Cumberlidge to each of the youngsters who had
worked so tenaciously serving refreshments throughout Saturday and
Sunday . The evening finished with Di Cox producing yet more sumptuously
delicious fayre. |
