Maintenance Day

East Garston Church - 2008

We still have much work to do, but a very positive development has taken place : various people have offered to become involved in particular activities and so sub groups have been formed. Chris and Dawn Tonge with Ivor and Glenys Denton and Martyn Wright and myself, are carrying out an extensive review of the Churchyard. The County Archivist as well as the Diocese have some involvement in the project, which we are planning with Tony Cumberlidge.

Inside the church, Diana Smith, is helped now by Jenny Talmage along with Madeleine Thomas, Mary Lane and Renee Rookes. Ann Phillips is not only involved with the frontals and linens, but is also assisting with the monitoring of the Church Inventory and Log book.
Lastly but most significantly, I would like to pay tribute to the magnificent contribution to the church, made by Christopher Vaughan. Christopher is well known as a bell ringer in the band at the East Garston tower, but his involvement with the church is much wider.
Although not able to be with us this year, Christopher spent many hours in October rebuilding the old boiler house cover at the south end of the church, which for some time had been recognised as a serious hazard. Such are his joinery skills, that Christopher made us a beautiful manger, designed by Helen, for our crib service in 2007. Additionally he fitted extra hand rails in the tower for the choir when they sang madrigals from the top of it, as well as carrying out numerous other maintenance jobs........Thank you Christopher
