On
Saturday 22nd November the 6th Annual General Meeting and
Presentation Dinner of the East Garston Cricket Club was held
at The Queens Arms, East Garston. The evening began with the
A.G.M. The Treasurers report was presented by Alan Breadmore.
The club was considered to be in a much healthier state financially
than at this time last year. Various fund raising events and
raffles held throughout the season had raised £1,000.
This did not include the £700 received from the fete
proceeds in September.
All members of
the committee retire at the A.G.M. but as no nominations for
officers had been received it was proposed the existing committee
should be re-elected en bloc. Proposed C. Pounds, Seconded
N. Hayes.
After a splendid
dinner Chris Tonge (Chairman) welcomed everyone and thanked
the President Peter Smith and his wife Diana for their continued
support. Chris also welcomed Ken and Maureen Tarbox attending
for the first time. Ken was thanked for the wonderful job
he has done over the past few years in promoting the Cricket
Club on the East Garston website by publishing fixtures, results
and various fund raising events throughout the season. It
is hoped Ken will be able to come along to some of the events
and matches in the up and coming season.
Bouquets of flowers
were presented to Bonnie Pounds for organising teas and Sue
Hayes for scoring. A bottle of wine was presented to Emma
Jones who stands in as scorer when Sue is unable to be there.
Mick
Highnett (Captain) reported 22 matches were on the fixtures
list but due to bad weather and some teams being unable to
field a team only 15 were actually played, of these 10 were
won, 1 drawn, 4 lost. Mick then announced the awards for the
2008 season.
The
Champagne Moment Trophy was awarded to Arthur Hayes
Most
Improved Player Trophy went to Michael Ellis
Captains
Player to Nigel Hayes
Picking up his
second trophy of the evening, Arthur Hayes receives the coveted
Players Player Award from club President
Peter Smith and his wife Diana. Thumbs up all round, well
done Arthur.
Once
again an excellent evening to end the season.
