Garston Gallopers
At Kintbury & Sheepdrove 2010
Having
practised regularly over the winter months, with some trepidation
we felt ready to perform in public. Our first outing was to support
Kintbury Morris at their traditional May Fair in their home village
of Kintbury. Having the more experienced side with us gave us confidence
and we successfully performed some dances with them and some on
our own. |
June
has been a busy month for the Gallopers. On Sunday the 6th we danced
in the beautiful surroundings of Sheepdrove Organic Farm’s
courtyard for their Open Farm Lambing Day. Ladies in the side wore
floral head-dresses for the first time and Jonathan looked magnificent
in his newly acquired hat. We danced to the accompaniment of Alan
on the melodeon and George (the third member of the Rabbitts family
to become involved) on the drum. |
The
dances we have learnt so far have the interesting names of ‘Saturday
Night On’, ‘Quest’, ‘Request’, ‘Shepherds
Away’ and our own special arrangement ‘The Garston Gallop’.
On the 12th June we visited Leckhampstead, where we had been invited
to dance outside the Stag pub for their fete. Gaining in confidence
with every public appearance, this was our best performance to date
and I’m told we even managed to smile as we danced! We were
very well received and have already been booked to appear next year
at the same event. |
As
always, we are eternally grateful for the support of our melodeon
players, Alan, Jim and Derek, and members of Kintbury Morris,
Penny, Sylvia and Jean for their patience and time. |
