The Anvil Theatre
Garston Gallopers at The Anvil Theatre Basingstoke on Thursday the 8th of March
When
Robert spotted that Damien Barber’s ‘Time Gentlemen Please’ was
coming to The Anvil, Basingstoke, we decided to have a group outing
to see the show. It was advertised as the UK’s No. 1 folk and hip-hop
extravaganza so seemed right up our street (well, the folk part,
anyway!). Much to our surprise and delight we were contacted
by Damien Barber asking us to dance outside the theatre before the
performance. He had found that Morris displays helped to create
a buzz before the shows. |
Six
teams were involved – three outside the front of The Anvil and three
on the terrace outside the bar |
We
danced in front of the theatre with Alton Morris and Borderline
Morris for 45 minutes before the show. |
Alton Morris perform, resplendent in their vivid Black, Red and
Green outfits. |
The equally colourful Borderline Morris opting for the Neon look.
Like the Purple and Green of our own Morris side, this colouration
is especially effective under artificial lighting. |
It
was a great place to dance – a flat, paved surface with lots of
space. Damien came out to watch us for a short time. |
The
show - ‘Time Gentlemen Please’ - was absolutely brilliant and we
would recommend it to anyone. The audience was quite colourful,
too, with many people wearing their Morris gear. |
