On a breezy Bank Holiday Monday, 27th May, we set up Alan’s gazebo and laid out our picnic at Lambourn Sports Club for their Picnic in the Park. This was a joint event organised by the Lambourn Carnival Committee and the Co-op Community Card Lunch.We had two dance spots, at 1:45 and 3pm. For the first session we took the easy option and danced on the hard surface of the car park.

We had a team of 10 dancers so were able to take the occasional welcome rest between dances as the majority are for six people. We had a good audience and persuaded several people to join in our last dance, Quest.

In our break we enjoyed our picnic in the sun and were refreshed in time for our second session, which we agreed to do on the grass in front of the pavilion. This gave us a few more spectators, who were all enjoying their own picnics on the playing field.

We performed four dances including our latest ‘Nine Maids’ Morris’ which went well. Our final dance of the afternoon, ‘Shepherds Away’ attracted a large number of participants, including several very young children.

Robert did a great job of explaining the steps and leading the way.
