Wimborne Minster
Garston Gallopers Wimborne Minster Folk Festival Sunday 9th June 2013
We
had a comfortable ride down to Wimborne in Lambourn School’s new
minibus, thanks to Micky. It was a lovely warm sunny day, perfect
for dancing. There was plenty going on in Wimborne with a variety
of street entertainment in addition to Morris. |
We
had been allocated four dance spots throughout the day, the first
one being at The Green Man at the western end of the town. Here
we took turns to dance with Exmoor Border Morris who wore magnificent
blue rag coats and floral hats. |
While
we were there we watched two Cotswold sides, Bourne River (wearing
white) and Holt Morris (wearing black). |
Also,
following us were Maenads (The Wild Women of Kent) who wore green
rag coats over red skirts and Sidmouth Steppers, a Ladies North West Morris side, dressed in blue and white with red pinafores. |
Our
next venue was a busier one – The High Street. Here we alternated
with Bourne River Morris (yellow and blue baldrics) and later enjoyed watching several other Morris sides. |
After
a break for lunch and a look round the town we were back in the
High Street to dance again, this time sharing the venue with Wickham
Morris, another Cotswold side, with red and blue baldrics. |
Our
final dance spot was back at The Green Man and when we arrived there
Alton Morris (red and green) were just finishing their set. We were
on our own this time and feeling a little weary but particularly
enjoyed performing our latest dance – Nine Men’s (or should it be
Maids’?) Morris. |
