Fete 2003
The Village Fete - 2003
Back
now to 2003 and a chance to revisit the late summer fete of that
year. It was a glorious summers' day enjoyed by all who attended..
This was the the first time the "Dog Racing" event was
featured, previous years have seen the annual duck race, but East
Garston being the thriving community it is - always looks for something
just a little different. 2003 was also the year the BBQ sold out
of everything - as did the beer tent. |

District Councillor, Graham Jones. |
In
my opinion " A dam good councillor - and an equally good sport" |
The Live music for the afternoon was provided by "The Apollo Big Band" |
Based
in nearby Stockcross, the band specialise in music from the big
band era covering the work of Gerry Dorsey, Glen Miller and Count
Basie, to name just three.More information can be found on the band's
own website at www.apollobigband.co.uk |

"The
three legged race" caused a few problems for the contestants
- Here, the boys appear to have a better grasp of it than the girls. The chap in the middle photo must wonder what all the fuss is about - he uses FOUR legs to run, and he doesn't keep falling over. |
This
vintage Fordson Tractor kindly loaned for the day - is the treasured
possession of local builder "Tony Hawkins"

Creating a great deal of interest was the now retired racing greyhound 'Ballyvorda Class,' during his racing carreer he was ownd by a syndicate of 20 people which included Dawn and Chris Tonge. The syndicate also owned one other Greyhound and two race horses. 'Ballyvorda Class' Won 28 races in total including the Grand National in March 2002. That same year he was awarded 'Dog of the Year' at Wimbledon, his local track and also secured the title of 'Hurdler of the Year'. The latter being a national award. In his retirement he has taken up residence in the village under the ownership of Chris and Dawn. |
